Remembering “D-Day” June 6, 1944
With gratitude and respect to the courageous and selfless
On this the 79th anniversary of the Normandy landing and airborne operations that helped turn the tide of World War II, let us remember and honor the bravery of the Allied land, air and sea forces who participated in Operation Overlord, on what was to become known as D-Day.
Landing a combined 156,000 troops across five beaches in Normandy, France, Overlord was the largest operation of its kind in military history. And though costly in terms of casualties, the events of D-Day were essential to the eventual liberation of northwest Europe from Nazi occupation and bringing an end to the Second World War.

So today, in between making weekend, wedding or vacation plans, please pause and say a prayer to the soldiers who answered the ultimate call of duty and dared do what had to be done on shores a long way from home in service and sacrifice to the freedom we now call our own.
