The Most Important Promises To Keep
Are the ones you make to yourself
Hey, thanks for stopping by, motivational maestro Spyder Darling here and perhaps you know me from my The Tao of Spyder series.
Today I’m here with a quick reminder that if you want to improve, the most important person to keep your word with is you.
Never mind setting lofty goals with unrealistic ambitions like loosing fifty pounds in a month, running a marathon when you haven’t worn sneakers you have to tie in years or writing an international best seller when you can barely manage a coherent grocery list.
While these may be admirable intentions, you’re setting yourself up for failure by aiming too high and will no doubt end up feeling lower than when you started as a result.
Instead, try breaking your heart’s desires down into manageable promises that you make to yourself and can feel good about keeping. If you want to lose weight, start by not gaining any more and work down a couple pounds a month from there. If you want to run, promise you’ll get out for at least a half an hour at a comfortable pace, four times a month and work up from there. If you want to be a writer, promise you’ll sit down for twenty minutes a day, put the cell phone on do not disturb and start writing your words.
